About your experience

Experience a once in a lifetime opportunity and discover one of the most active volcanos of the Indian Ocean, the Piton de la Fournaise. The most recent full eruption occurred in 2007, and its traces are still visible today. The explosion caused approx—140 million cubic meters to flow into the sea and expanded the La Réunion island by 0.45 sqm. The most recent eruption was in June 2014! With an experienced guide, trek along the craters and listen to them unveil the secrets of this natural phenomenon.

During your drive to the meeting point, Route du Volcan, coast along mixed woodlands and through bizarre, vast landscapes. Stop at breathtaking viewpoints for memorable pictures or a moment of tranquility. At the end of the road, you will suddenly have a remarkable view of La Plaine des Sables, the plateau surrounding the volcano.

Once you complete the drive, your hike begins at the most recently collapsed crater of the volcano, the Pen Fouquet. Hike down paths that cross the solidified lava of the last years and admire the active crater, Piton de la Fournaise.
