Hobart - Strahan - Cradle Mountain - Launceston

When you arrive at Hobart Airport, pick up your rental car, and get ready to explore Australia's smallest state! Situated at the foot of Mt Wellington, Hobart combines historic charm with a modern lifestyle in a landscape of extraordinary beauty. Hobart is both the capital of Tasmania and the second oldest capital of Australia. Since the city nestles on the Derwent River, you can enjoy the excellent fresh sea air at one of the world's most beautiful, natural harbors. Wander through the beautiful waterways, pass sandstone buildings, walk through the stone arches at Salamanca Place, or stroll along the harbor's restaurant mile in the early evening. The Salamanca Palace is in the heart of the city and located directly on the waterfront, making it the perfect meeting place.

Our tip: Located directly on the lively Elisabeth Street is the famous restaurants "Ethos Eat Drink" and "Sweet Envy." And not far from there is Murray Street, where you can visit the stylish restaurant "Garagistes." Visit these delicious restaurants, sip on a glass of wine, or try some fresh seafood!

Just a 10 minute drive away is the majestic Mount Wellington, offering stunning hikes and short walks at its foot. For those who fancy an adventurous stroll, climb the 4265-feet peak, and enjoy the breathtaking views of the city and Derwent Valley.

Duration of trip from Hobart Airport to Hobart hotel: 19 km / approx. 20 minutes

One night at Lenna of Hobart**** with breakfast in a Mountain View Room, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia

Today head towards Strahan, where you can stop for a walk around Lake St. Clair on your way. The Tasmanians call this lake Leeawuleena, which means "sleeping water."

As you continue your journey, you will arrive at the fishing village of Strahan. The 31-mile long bay is home to the only harbor on the rugged west coast of the island, and it's where the King and Gordon River flow into the ocean. Here you can enjoy the peace and pure nature since the village is home to only 600 people.

From the lighthouse, relish beautiful views of the surrounding area. Strahan, an ideal starting point to explore the untouched landscape of the west coast, is an insider tip of Tasmania. Cross the lush green cliffs and deep valleys on a steam train, or explore the park on foot. Donaghy's Lookout offers lovely views of the surrounding rainforest.

Strahan is also the main gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Franklin Gordon Wild River Park. The raging waters are particularly ideal for rafting adventures!

Our tip: Approximately seven miles north of Strahan, there's a dune in the middle of the forest where you can slide down on sand boards.

Duration of trip Hobart - Strahan: approx. 300 km / approx. 4 hours

Two nights at Risby Cove**** in a One Bedroom Spa Suite, Strahan, Australia

Cradle Mountain is Tasmania's most famous mountain because of its unique beauty. The park was created by glacier movements in the last ice age and is full of vegetation that's not found anywhere else in Australia. Mount Ossa, Australia's highest mountain rising to 5300 feet, is also located here! The well-known hiking trail, Oberland Track, stretches a total length of about 50 miles (around a seven-day hike) and leads to the southern part of the park. It meanders through ice-cold streams, rainforests, and alpine heathland. The path leads to the south part of the park. Other small, idyllic hiking trails are all are excellently marked for hikers to follow, boasting views of varied flora and fauna landscape.

Duration of trip Strahan - Cradle Mountain: approx. 140 km / approx. 2 hours

One night at Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge**** with breakfast at Pencil Pine Cabin, Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park, Tasmania

On the way to Launceston, you'll pass the small town of Sheffield, whose history is perpetuated on the city's buildings. In Elisabeth Town, visit Ashgrove Cheese Farm or Christmas Hills Rasberry Farm, or Honey Farm in Chudleigh, where you can sample delicious local produce! The cheese farm offers cheese for wine tasting and plenty of other products to enjoy on the farm.

Launceston is one of the first European settlements in Australia. The numerous parks and Victorian buildings that still exist today radiate with original flair, and the reason it's often called the "Garden City of the North." The North Esk River and the South Esk River meet here to form the Tamar Valley. Be sure to visit Contract Gorge, only 15 minutes from the city center, and the town's suspension bridge. These highlights offer lovely hiking trails and breathtaking views of its surrounding mountains and lush vineyards. Take the gorge's chairlift to different viewing platforms and enjoy fantastic panoramas.

For the shopping lovers, head over to Brisbane Street Market, Civic Square, and Quadrant Mall. Enjoy the street musicians and beautiful markets that line the sidewalks. Every Saturday from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM, there's the Harvest Launceston Farmers' Market on Cimitiere Street, where you can order delicious wines and delicacies.
