Fall in love with the Down Under chugging down one of the country’s most famous railroads. The Darwin to Adelaide railroad travels through the breathtaking landscape of the outback's impenetrable tranquility, showcasing the full beauty of the red continent. These new perspectives will impress all who board the legendary “The Ghan.”
In the late afternoon hours, the legendary “The Ghan” leaves the Darwin train station and takes you on a journey into the heart of Australia. Check-in to your spacious and stylishly furnished private cabin, then enjoy a lavishly arranged lunch at the train’s Queen Adelaide Restaurant. Your first stopover is Katherine, where you will have the opportunity to admire the nearby Nitmiluk National Park (optional). Can you spot the unique gorges and rushing rivers? You can explore the area from a boat and notice the ancient rock paintings found in the steep sandstone rock walls. These are a small part of the exciting history of the local Aboriginal culture.
When you hop back onto the train, it will continue its long journey into the outback. Enjoy these relaxing evenings with your favorite book and a delicious cocktail. As the sun slowly approaches the horizon, breathtaking stretches of land, and a colorful show in the sky will amaze you.
Wake up in your cozy cabin to an entirely different and captivating panorama of the center of the continent. Are you craving a hearty breakfast? How about a delicious waffle with strawberries and Belgian chocolate? Treat yourself! Afterward, you can meet other travelers and exchange stories about your memories. The Outback Explorer Lounge is the perfect place for these exchanges. At lunchtime, you can enjoy a unique gourmet menu that’s thematically based on the outback’s local specialties.
Alice Springs is a city with extraordinary contrasts between millennia-old culture and modern Australian life. To get a good look at the 300 million-year-old MacDonnell rock formation, book a helicopter excursion (optional).
In the evening, the train will start rolling down the tracks again. In a calming atmosphere, savor a tasty drink and talk about the highlights of your day. Stay up late to catch unique views of Manguri’s starry sky.
The train begins to get closer and closer to the south coast, thus ending your journey. The landscape’s colors gradually change from shades of red and to the lush greens common to the coastlines. From your window, you can see vast fields, and the smells of the sea will tickle your nose. Enjoy your last breakfast while you slowly prepare for your arrival in Adelaide. At lunchtime, the train will pull back into the station, where you will say goodbye to “The Ghan.” Now you can look forward to the myriad of exciting activities that the city has to offer!
