  • Follow in the footsteps of old pioneers across the Andes massif
  • Admire a starry sky that is unique worldwide
  • Marvel at incredible natural spectacles, in front of constantly changing scenery
  • Enjoy Argentinian wines and local specialties

Day 1: San Pedro de Atacama, Chile - Your journey begins today!

Today your tour starts at the airport in Calama. At the airport, you will be waited for and warmly welcomed before going to your hotel. Not far from the idyllic town of San Perdo de Atacama lies the luxurious explora Atacama Lodge, set in the world-famous desert region. After you have settled into your stylish room, the evening dinner will be the first of many culinary attractions. Later, take advantage of the absolute darkness of the Atacama region to visit the hotel's very own observatory. Relish in an almost unrestricted view into the expanse of space, and allow yourself to feel the anticipation for the coming days.

Days 2-3: San Pedro de Atacama, Chile - exploration of the desert

The second and third days are specially designed for acclimatization with the climate and altitude. The camp presents itself as a small oasis in itself, perfect for relaxing with green areas and leafy trees. Active leisure activities include exciting excursions. Both the expectations of nature-loving and sport-motivated guests are fully met on the professionally guided tours. Above all is the extraordinary natural space of the Atacama, considered one of the driest, but that with its 1000 shades of color is one of the most varied on Earth. Throughout your stay in the lodge, you will have an eye on the itinerary of the next few days: uphill to the Andes - into one of the highest mountain ranges in the world.

Please note that the explora Atacama is closed until at least the end of September. For this reason, overnight stays in the explora Atacama are replaced by overnight stays in Tierra Atacama or Alto Atacama.

Day 4: Chile - to the mountains!

The journey to the southeast starts at early noon. The terrain rises slowly, revealing the first features of its multi-faceted face with bubbling geysers and blazing volcanoes. Your local driver will tell exciting stories about the discovery of the area. Relaxed breaks give you the opportunity to spend a moment longer in the very special places. At dusk you will reach the camp "El Laco", about 4200 meters above sea level and named after a not far away volcano. The fancy dinner, which is prepared freshly for you after your arrival, tastes excellent. Under a starry sky and the humbling vastness of the universe, you will feel like a true explorer in this remote region. You will spend the night in accommodation specially designed for explora.

Day 5: From Chile to Argentina - crossing national borders

For the first half of the day, there are two unique walking routes to choose from: either climb the 5,300-meter-high peak of El Lacos to enjoy a breathtaking view from the top, or follow the course of one of its ancient extinct lava flows. Back at the camp, the cars are already loaded and you set out to cross the nearby Argentinian border. The journey continues through the Abra del Acay zone, which is not without reason entitled "Natural Monument", past the source of the Calchaquí River, which feeds the green meadows and fields of numerous valleys. Late in the evening you will arrive at La Quesera Camp, where you will get to enjoy an excellent Argentinian wine.

Day 6: Cachi - picturesque villages and smoking calderas

A morning walk through the surrounding area will give you enough energy to visit the not far away La Poma, a traditional mountain village. From there, the exciting craters of the Gemelos twin volcanoes are not far away. At dusk you reach the heights of Cachi. Countless rivers and streams emerge from the surrounding cliffs, creating an incomparable atmosphere. On the following 3 nights you will stay in a stylish finca and enjoy the excellent Argentinian cuisine.

Days 7-8: Valles Calchaquies - unique natural spectacles

The next two days include an exciting range of impressive excursions. The area surrounding Calchaquies Valley, which covers 5,000 acres, offers a semi-arid natural environment characterized by unique rock formations and raging meltwater streams. There are unique natural spectacles, typical cultural landscapes or archaeological sites to visit. The indigenous people of Cachi have left their mark in many places in the form of stone paintings and the ruins of their buildings. The evenings are spent with exciting conversations at the fireplace, underlined by the incomparable aroma of an Argentinian barbecue.

Day 9: Salta - Argentina's oldest colonial town

On the ninth day, you will follow the Cuesta del Obispo, the Bishop's route, down to the valley and to the destination of your journey. Throughout the year, special cloud formations emerge that seem to form a second bottom and end the road in no time. Accompanied by condors in gliding, head down the valley to reach the city of Salta. It is one of Argentina's oldest colonial cities, which thrills with an exceptionally pleasant climate and its unmatched serenity. From there you will either drive to the airport or, if you have decided to spend a few more days in Salta, to your hotel.

itravel - for that moment.
