Experience - New Zealand

Misty Mountains Heli Hike

Highlights

  • See places where the Lord of the Rings movies were film from the air

  • Hike over otherworldly mountains

  • See rich biodiversity firsthand

Description

The experience is all about adventure. Board the helicopter and see New Zealand's beautiful landscapes from a bird's eye view. Two helicopter landings high up in the mountains await you. In between, you will hike along beautiful landscapes.

Destination

Oceania & South Pacific

  1. New Zealand
  2. South Island New Zealand

Your tour, which will last 4 to 5 hours, starts with the flight to the glaciated Fog Peak. Once you arrive at Fog Peak, you can enjoy a fantastic view over the snow-covered "Southern Alps" and let yourself be spoilt by the fantastic view over the 3.033 m high Mount Aspiring.

Back in the helicopter, you will fly to a Lord of the Rings site, Treble Cone's Towers Ridge. Here you can admire the backdrop of the last Hobbit movie. Do you recognize it? Follow in the footsteps of dwarves, witches, and the little ring bearer on a two-hour-long hike, at an altitude of about 2000 meters, downhill through the mystical Misty Mountains. Passing unique rock formations, deep canyons, and endless glaciers you will see the blue Lake Wanaka further east. Take great pictures of the incredible diversity and, with a little luck, you will see the New Zealand falcon or the curious mountain parrot. An unforgettable adventure is the crossing of the "Misty Mountains", when fantasy and reality merge into one.
