"Bienvenido" to Central America! You will land in Costa Rica's capital, San José, and a representative of our partner agency will receive you after passport control. After you have taken your luggage together and passed the customs check, your airport tour guide will be waiting for you to accompany you to your private airport transfer. You will drive together to your first hotel: Buena Vista. Located on a hill on the slopes of the Poá volcano, it offers breathtaking views of the central valley, which you can enjoy from the charming garden or pool. San José is the cultural center of Costa Rica. The National Museum and the famous Gold Museum are amongst its most important cultural treasures. Today, you can pick up your rental car at the hotel. After breakfast, head to the Poás Volcano National Park, one of the most active volcanoes in the country. The journey is a real experience in itself: Take a short break, get out of your car and enjoy the great views of the picturesque coffee plantations, located on the crater rim. Tip: It is best to drive in the early morning to the Poás volcano in order to experience a cloud-free view. Walk along big-leaved plants to the main crater with its turquoise blue lagoon and experience the crater close to the viewing platform. It fumes, hisses and an intense smell of sulfur is in the air - simply an unforgettable experience. In addition to the Poás volcano, there is also the Irazu, the highest volcano in Costa Rica and within easy reach from San José. Located in the oldest national park, it is also very popular with the locals. Drive your car up to one kilometer to the crater or hike to 3,400 meters above sea level. Whatever you choose, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the huge crater in fine weather , surrounded by lush green mountains, and see both the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans. Then continue along the scenic landscapes to Turrialba. This small town is located in a green valley surrounded by large mountains and a dense rainforest. Known for its numerous coffee plantations, Turrialba is also the ideal starting point for adventurous excursions. Explore the Turrialba volcano and experience a lot of fun. Your itinerary continues today to San Gerado de Dato. Visit the Guayabo National Monument on the way. This important archaeological site lies at the foot of the Turrialba volcano and shows what the settlement forms of the country looked like before Christopher Columbus discovered it. Visit the pre-Columbian ruins and stroll along the well-kept streets with blooming flowers. After the great walk, continue your journey. Passing the former capital of Cartago, you will be able to visit the imposing Basílica Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, before reaching San Gerado de Dato in the late afternoon. San Gerado de Dato is a rural hilltop village surrounded by greenery and colorful fruit plantations. The Alps are reminiscent of a tropical rain forest and a real paradise for bird lovers - lush green hills, small wooden houses with colorful flower pots and small trout ponds in the garden characterize this unusual landscape in Central America. Wake up early today and we guarantee you that your effort will be rewarded: Wander through the cloud forest and observe over 200 different species of birds.
