He was constantly on the lookout for the culprits and captivated numerous spectators with his exciting cases. Summery, baroque, and glorious settings offered viewers a pleasant contrast to the otherwise gloomy detective stories.

The bestsellers of Sicilian author Andrea Camilleri, as well as the TV show, are set in the fictional town of Vigata and the surrounding area. Porto Empedocle was originally the setting, but RAI, an Italian TV channel, decided to film the book adaptation in the picturesque area around Ragusa, in southeastern Sicily.

Together with your guide, you will go in search of the most famous filming locations. The commissioner enjoyed a beautiful view from his villa in Marinella every day. In reality, the villa in the series is located in the small village of Punta Secca, south of Santa Croce Camerina.

In the adaptation, the venerable town hall of Scicli represents the police station in Vigata, where Montalbano went about his business. The baroque building is very well preserved to this day.

Ragusa Ibla was staged with panoramic shots in many episodes and often shown in the Vigata scenes. Does Piazza Duomo remind you of a situation in Inspector Montalbano's investigations?

Modica is also a glorious baroque town that, like Scicli and Ragusa, had to be rebuilt after the earthquake of 1693. Strolling through its streets, you will understand why the director chose exactly this place as a setting: The city is considered one of the most photogenic in Sicily - its church and the façade of Palazzo Polara are a treat for photography lovers.
