Rapa Nui (or "Big Rapa", as it is known among its inhabitants) is the most remote piece of land in the world. About 3,500km from the shores of Chile, Rapa Nui emerges from the Pacific Ocean with its volcanic cone shape. Being the cradle of a unique and enigmatic culture, the island continues to endure today under the watchful eyes of the enormous carved stone Moai. For its remoteness, geographical beauty, and rich culture, Rapa Nui was declared a Word Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995.
