Explore the Caribbean
Breathtaking, powdery white beaches
Sip a cocktail in the Piscina Natural, a large sandbank in the middle of the sea
White, palm-fringed sandy beaches. Idyllic mangrove forests. Picture-perfect surroundings. The Caribbean is waiting for you.
Brave through the glistening water on a speedboat or catamaran and experience the Caribbean from one of its most enchanting islands: Saona.
Your journey starts with a trip to the fishing village of Bayahibe. Once in Bayahibe, you will take a speedboat or catamaran to Saona Island, a protected area inside Parque Nacional del Este (East National Park). This experience features breathtaking beaches and mangrove forests, where you can find rare fish and bird species.
Saona is home to about 1,000 locals, who mainly live from fishing and hunting for pigeons and wild boars. The shallow water around it (intrinsic to Saona's mangrove ecosystem) is an ideal refuge for fish, birds and other marine animals. Magnificent frigate birds, pelicans, herons, and boobies breed here.
On the way, you will also stop for a swim on a visit to the Piscina Natural ("natural pool"), a large sandbank in the middle of the sea. You can stand waist-deep in the water and savor a cocktail while colorful fish cavort around you, or go for a swim.
At noon, you will enjoy a typical barbecue on the beach. Your return to Bayahibe and then to your hotel will take place in the afternoon.
Duration of the trip: All day
