Destination

Africa

Mombasa – Taita Hills – Tsavo West National Park

The best time to travel to Kenya is in the dry season from December to February. Temperatures are pleasantly warm, and there's hardly any rain. The lack of water means that the animals rarely move away from the waterholes, making wildlife observation more likely.

After landing, a driver will pick you up and directly take you to your accommodation by the sea: Severin Sea Lodge. Enjoy the azure sea and sunbathe on the white beaches of Kenya. Take this time to relax after the flight because you have a packed safari adventure that awaits you in the next few days!

Travel time Mombasa Airport - Severin Sea Lodge: approx. one hour / about 20 km

Two nights at Severin Sea Lodge**** with half board in Comfort Class, Mombasa, Kenya

At 06:30, your transfer will pick up you and your family at the beach resort (Mombasa North or South Coast). Our tip: At the reception, sign up for early breakfast the evening before.

As you drive to your next destination, you will pass Mombasa, Mariakani, and the large sisal fields of Voi to the small private sanctuary of the Taita Hills. The kids will love the ride through the pulsating Mombasa because of the exceptional nature. Arrive at your next accommodation around lunchtime, and then you will have some time to relax while your children explore the area. From the lodge, you may already see animals at the nearby waterhole! Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge is a beautiful lodge that impresses all. The unique accommodations are built on stilts and connected by wooden walkways. Staying at the lodge is already an unforgettable experience because the animals can pass under the rooms! Your photos will come out remarkable since the lodge's architecture allows you to have a new perspective directly above the wildlife. When the midday heat is over, start a game drive that ends at dusk. Round off the eventful day with a nice dinner.

In advance, you can also book a swim at Severin Sea Lodge before leaving. From there, a transfer will pick you up and take you to Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge.

Travel time Mombasa - Taita Hills Nature Reserve: approx. four hours / about 215 km

Two nights at Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge**** with full board, Taita Hills, Kenya

At dusk, have a cup of coffee or tea, then embark on your first game drive! As you and the family get ready to leave, allow the tingly sensation of excitement crawl amongst your skin. The approximately 100 km² reserve borders the Tsavo West National Park. Taita Hills’ rocks and bushy savannahs dominate its unique landscape. In addition to the “Big 5” African animals, you will also see large cats and many bird species. Your first encounter with an elephant will captivate the entire family. After the early morning game drive, a hearty breakfast will help you recharge your batteries for the day ahead.

Back at Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge, another extraordinary adventure awaits you and your family. An underground bunker with a view allows visitors to observe wildlife from a new perspective. Admire animals you usually see at the zoo up close in the wild! In the evening, indulge in excellent food at the restaurant or eat in the open air with views of the Taita Hills’ flora and fauna.

After a comfortable breakfast, head to the next destination of your safari: Severin Safari Camp.

Your first journey to Lake Jipe is an insider tip amongst safari experts. The path leads you through the steppe, where you can catch an incredible view of the lake and Tanzania mountains. With a little luck, you will encounter some gentle elephants up close! This game safari is perfect for the young and old family members seeking exciting, engaging, and adventurous discoveries! Overlooking the lake, forget about reality, and enjoy a picnic lunch box.

Your journey continues to Chala Lake’s magnificent view. The border between Kenya and Tanzania runs through the middle of the lake. The crater lake is deep blue and surrounded by a crater rim up to 100 meters high. Your kid-friendly driver will teach you and the family about the exciting history of the lake's volcanic origin.

In the late afternoon, arrive at the beautiful Severin Safari Camp. Masai Tom and Dickson will greet you with a welcome drink upon arrival. At the "Out of Africa" restaurant, you can enjoy a delicious dinner and end the evening with a glass of wine or lemonade around the campfire!

Travel time Taita Hills Nature Reserve - Tsavo West National Park: approx. two hours / about 80 km

Two nights at Severin Safari Camp***** with full board in a standard room, Tsavo West National Park, Kenya

Did you hear the voices of the African night? The hustle and bustle outside your camp will get you out of the comfy bed for the beautiful sunrise. On your morning game drive to the springs of the Tsavo River, discover the hippos and crocodiles lifeblood. After your morning drive, enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet in the camp. Now it's time to get to know the other camp highlights. Relish the fantastic scenery of the wilderness from the pool. Your children will listen to stories about Masai and the authentic impression of life in the bush.

After a short refreshment in your tent, enjoy lunch at the restaurant. Do you fancy a rendezvous with crocodiles and hippos? In the afternoon, take the safari to the famous Mzima Springs. The crystal-clear springs nestle in a beautiful oasis of palm trees and acacia trees and supply Mombasa's city with water. It’s a paradise for fish, crocodiles, and hippos, but not suitable for swimming. Back at the camp, the restaurant will treat you to an à la carte dinner. The evening campfire in front of the illuminated waterhole provides romance under the African starry sky. In this atmosphere, your children are captivated by Manja Seifert's thrilling safari stories. The guest attendant at the camp has been in Kenya for many years and has experienced a lot.

After breakfast, head for Tsavo River Gate. Your last game drive will teach you about the bustling history of Tsavo National Park, and your experienced guide will lead you to the Roaring Rocks. The Roaring Rocks served as a shelter for the Mau Mau warriors during Kenya's War of Independence. From here, you will enjoy breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean! Leave Tsavo National Park, and head back towards Mombasa. During a lunch break, enjoy your lovingly arranged lunch box from the camp team. After an eventful time in the African wilderness, you will return to your hotel and get to know the coastal region.
