Description

On this hike, you will experience a real masterpiece of nature! Moss-covered paths, endemic plants, and natural wonders that could not be more beautiful. 25 springs and a major waterfall can be admired in their perfect splendour at Rabaçal.

Destination

Europe

  1. Portugal
  2. Madeira

Your full-day hike will start around 9 a.m., when you will be picked up at your hotel in Funchal and be transported to the plateau of Paul da Serra. From here you will walk to the Rabaçal guesthouse and on to the Risco waterfalls.

Moss-covered paths and expansive erica trees will make up today’s surroundings. After about an hour into your hike, a mysterious, distant roar will touch your ears. The unforgettable view of the descending Risco waterfalls will soon open up to you. The cascades envelop the surroundings in a mystical atmosphere that invites you to take a short break. Even if the paths become somewhat narrower in the middle and the slope on the left frighteningly drops off in places, you will always be able to enjoy wonderful views of the lush, green valley of the Ribera da Janela. After crossing one of the many bridges, you will soon reach the 25 springs. Take some time to enjoy their beauty and uniqueness.
