What are those new smells? How about those ancient sites - have you ever seen something like that before? And the people! Are you feeling welcomed during your first experience in Thailand?
Golden temples, historic khlongs, and steamy food stalls await you during the first days of our Thailand combination tour. Explore the intricate network of Bangkok's ancient canals and learn about everyday life in this extraordinary metropolis. In Chiang Mai, you will walk on spiritual paths, step into the shoes of a local Thai person for the day, and go on an excursion into the green mountainous region of Chiang Mai. The second part of the journey will fly you to a dreamy beach of your choice in southern Thailand. The idyllic postcard views by the sea and hours unwinding away from reality will make this trip unforgettable.
When visiting Bangkok and both northern and southern Thailand, the best time is during the dry season from December to March. There are fewer forecasts of rain, and the temperatures stay roughly between 85°F and 95°F.
The rainy season between May and October usually consists of heavy rainfall.
After making it through airport security, your guide will welcome you with open arms at the arrivals hall. Hop into your car and head to your first hotel. Get settled into your room and notice the panoramic views of the famous city. Relish these views of the Chao Phraya River, the heart of the metropolis, from your room, or the infinity pool on the hotel's rooftop.
At noon, it's time to explore the city! Meet your guide in the lobby and head over to the riverbank. Hop into a private longtail boat and gently glide up and down the historic khlongs of the river. Locals use the canals for quick transportation to work or to organize markets. Unfortunately, over time, lots of channels have been filled up to create more space for new buildings.
Today's destination, Khlong Bang Luang, is one of the last remaining treasures in Bangkok's historic network of rivers and canals. When you arrive, you will notice the hustle and bustle of the city slowly start to disappear. Notice the various architectural styles when you pass by the commercial buildings, temples, and residences. When walking through these heritage areas, you will feel as if you are part of the former trade routes. Further away from the hectic city life, the heart of the artists' community awaits you: the Artist's House of Baan Silapin. The community renovated the 100-year-old house and converted it into an art gallery and a central meeting place for the artists. Marvel at the artwork on display around the Artist's House. If you wish, you can also sign-up for an art workshop.
You will then proceed to the Joe Louis School of Puppet Theatre. If available, you will get to watch a unique puppet show with colorful and elaborately designed figures! In the late afternoon, you will return to your hotel by boat.
Travel time Bangkok Airport – Hotel: approx. 45 minutes / 25 miles
2 nights at AVANI+ Riverside Bangkok***** with breakfast in a River View Room, Bangkok, Thailand
After breakfast, an extraordinary Bites & Sites Tour through the Village of Love awaits you. Bang Rak is in the heart of Bangkok, and it's an ideal place to discover the authentic culture. As the morning hours pass, a knowledgable guide will lead you through the neighborhood and introduce you to some locals. Learn more about the area' s history and listen to stories about some of the famous buildings. Of course, you will also get your taste buds excited during the Bites & Sites tour. Bang Rak is renowned for its cuisine and has many family-run food stalls. Stop at as many food stalls as you wish and taste the best traditional dishes and delicious exotic snacks. As you wander from stand to stand, you'll have the opportunity to chat with the chefs and shopkeepers, learning more about the history and culture of the authentic Bangkok.
At noon, head back to the hotel with your guide. Take some time to kick up your feet and relax.
In the late afternoon, your guide will pick you up again and show you Bangkok at night. After dusk, the mega-metropolis transforms into a colorful world of glitter. Board your long-tail boat from the hotel's private pier, and travel up the Chao Phraya River. Admire the illuminated buildings and temples from the water. Disembark at Wat Arun Pier, where you will visit its temple. Known as The Temple of Dawn, when translated, it soars 260 feet high. Its pagoda is one of the most beautiful landmarks at the Chao Phraya River and truly shines only under the evening sky.
Don't forget to snap a few memorable photos of this enchanting destination! Cross the river and enjoy a refreshing cocktail at Riva Arun Hotel's rooftop bar. Then make your way next door to your dinner reservations. The traditional Thai cuisine and uninterrupted views of the majestic Wat Arun Pier will make this an unforgettable dining experience. After dinner, stroll to the Wat Pho temple. The glistening ancient architecture is exceptional at night. Note: The lying Buddha cannot be visited in the evening.
Round off your evening with a tuk-tuk ride through Bangkok's old town and to the Pak Khlong Talad, also known as the Flower Market. Thailand's largest wholesale Flower Market is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Wander through the stalls and admire the colorful sea of flowers. Around 09:30 PM, your long day of city tours will end. For the night owls, you can explore the city's nightlife or additional evening markets - just ask your guide!
Savor a replenishing breakfast, then fly out of Bangkok and to Chiang Mai. When you arrive, settle into your new hotel before heading out on a spiritual tour through Chiang Mai’s old town.
The combination of ancient and modern buildings, coupled with the glittering pagoda towers illuminated by the late afternoon sun, creates a pleasantly soothing atmosphere in the city. Stroll through the crowds of people, visit the authentic shops, and try a variety of cuisines at the snack stands. Next, you will visit the secret jungle temple, Wat Palad. The magical temple radiates peace and tranquility plus a fantastic history. Monks built it to preserve a piece of Buddha's bone. When you arrive, one of the monks will bestow a blessing on you that should bring good health and happiness.
Leave the city center and embark on a winding journey up the Doi Suthep. Admire the elaborate Naga carvings and natural surroundings on your way up. At the summit, you will explore the 14th-century pagoda and learn more about its origins. Stroll through the high-rise golden stupa and soak up the view of Chiang Mai from above. Before the sun goes down, listen to the monks' mystical evening chant. Afterward, your guide will drive you back to your hotel.

3 nights at The Rim Chiang Mai**** with breakfast in a Supreme Deluxe Room, Chiang Mai, Thailand
Would you like to step into the shoes of a Thai for one day? Today you will have the opportunity! Spend a day far away from tourists and sights. Instead, you will learn what it's like to live in a Thai neighborhood and learn how to make some traditional cuisine!
Your host, Mr. Prapat, will pick you up after your hotel breakfast. Take a drive to his neighborhood, Hang Dong, where you will spend the day with his family. Step one: dress like a local. Try on a pair of fisherman pants to fit in! Traditionally worn in rural villages, you can find these comfortable cotton pants in the north. Find the right pair for you and take them home as a souvenir! After you have met the rest of the family, you will explore Mr. Prapat's estate. Stroll through the small family garden and pick fresh ingredients that give the meals their distinctive Thai cuisine flavor. In an interactive cooking course, prepare authentic northern Thai dishes that you will later eat together with the family.
Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your leisure. Explore the surroundings, capture the scenes of daily life, and appreciate the quiet atmosphere of the vicinity. You will say goodbye to Mr. Prapat and his family before returning to your hotel in Chiang Mai.
Your day starts earlier today. Your guide will pick you up at your hotel in a four-wheel-drive vehicle at 07:30 AM and drive you to the north of Chiang Mai. The first stop of this exciting day is the Mae Malai Market. Nestled on the outskirts of Chiang Mai, this colorful and exotic bazaar attracts many traders from the surrounding hill tribes.
After visiting the market, you will drive to the remote village of Baan Thon Youa, where you will embark on an approximately 2.5-hour hike. Enjoy the fresh air and spectacular views. The trail leads you between different mountain villages through the evergreen jungle. Learn all about the local tribes that were once famous for their opium trade, and later adapted their business to modern laws. They are now known for their arts and crafts, agriculture, and coffee plantations. Nourish yourself with a picnic lunch in the middle of nature.
At the end of the trek, you will reach a village called Baang Phong Ngan, inhabited by the Lahu Hill tribe. You will climb on a traditional bamboo raft and observe the exotic surroundings as the scenery slowly passes. With a bit of luck, you may come across some of the water buffalo that like to spend time in the calm waters. The water level determines the duration of the river trip. Usually, the boat ride takes about 1.5 hours. At the final destination, an off-road vehicle awaits you. Your exciting day ends with the drive back to the old town of Chiang Mai.
You will continue your journey after a hearty breakfast at the hotel. Your guide will take you to the airport, from where you will fly to Phuket in southern Thailand. The next week you can relax on the dream beaches of Khao Lak, spending worry-free days under the tropical sun.
