Destination

Asia

Negombo - Sigiriya - Kandy - Nuwara Eliya - Ella - Yala National Park - Negombo

Sri Lanka is an excellent destination because it’s pleasant to visit all year round. We recommend a trip to the south and west of Sri Lanka between November and March, whereas the north and east of the country are best from May to September.

When you arrive at Colombo International Airport, your transfer will meet you by baggage claim. Hop into the car and head to your first hotel in Negombo. Unpack and relax after your long journey before you’re picked up in the afternoon for a boat safari through the Negombo lagoon. Smell the authentic aromas of food in the distance, observe the daily activities of the locals on the banks, watch many fishing boats sail by, and sit back and relax as the coconut trees sway in the wind. After your one-hour boat ride, you will drive back to your beach hotel, where you can end the day watching the stunning sunset.

Before heading off to your next destination, visit the Negombo fish market. Hundreds of fishing boats go to sea daily and bring fresh catches here to sell. The early birds arrive at 04:00 in hopes of buying the best fish.

Next on the itinerary is Sigiriya in the Golden Triangle. In the early afternoon, visit the famous rock fortress. The colossal monolith will pop up into your view out of nowhere. Your guide will share interesting facts about the rock formation, like how it served as a fortress in the fifth century. From the plateau, you can relish incomparable views over the surrounding landscape.

After your eventful day, head back to the hotel and let the evening fade away with a delicious meal.

Are you looking forward to more nature? Well, you’re in luck! Today you will visit the holy city of Kandy. As you drive into the city, you will notice that it’s nestled in the middle of lush, green nature and surrounded by many tea plantations. On the way, visit a spice garden and learn insightful information about where pepper grows. The drive is already an adventure in itself! Are you wondering what the city tour has in store for you and your family?

Once you arrive in Kandy, freshen up and drive to the human-made Kandy Lake. Spot the animals that frolic around the water, and catch glimpses of the lake’s turtles, fish, pelicans, and snakes. The adventure continues to a viewing platform of the city, where you can take unforgettable photos of the impressive landscape.

Later, you will head back to the city center for a traditional dance performance in the evening. Then, visit two city highlights that light up beautifully in the night: Raja Wasala (the royal palace) and Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic). Witness an exciting ritual every evening when they unveil the most sacred relic, a canine of the Buddha. Thousands of devout Buddhists flock around the area daily to attend this ceremony.

In the evening, enjoy dinner at your hotel.

Another day exploring Kandy is on your itinerary for today. First, you will explore the Botanical Garden, a pure paradise boasting unique orchids, cacti, and many other tropical plants.

What can you expect at a batik factory? Today, you will find out! Your tour guide will give you an insight into an old process of coloring fabrics using cutouts and wax applications.

In the evening, head back to your hotel for dinner.

Drive down a winding road, past the evergreen tea plantations, through the impressive mountain landscapes, and toward the glittering waterfalls of Nuwara Eliya. This destination is the former stronghold of the colonial English high society and home of the world-famous Ceylon tea. Along the way, you will visit a tea plantation and learn the secrets of growing superb tea.

You will arrive at your destination in the early afternoon and check in at your next hotel. In the evening, stroll beside the shores of the human-made Gregory Lake and through the stunning vegetation of Victoria Park.

Today’s destination is the famous “World’s End” - a 1000-meter deep, steeply sloping rock in the Horton Plains National Park. When you arrive, you will feel like you’re on another planet. The dense forests, wild waterfalls, and rugged cliffs transport you to a different world. If you’re lucky to have blue skies, you can even enjoy a view of the Indian Ocean 80 km in the distance.

The journey continues to Ella, a small village reminiscent of a classic Italian town. Its charming cityscape is the perfect stopover for some relaxation.

On the way to Yala National Park, make a pit stop at the 40-meter-high Ravana waterfall and the Buddhist temple Buduruwagala.

Yala National Park nestles in the south of Sri Lanka and is home to crocodiles, wild boars, elephants, monkeys, and above all, one of the densest leopard populations worldwide. You and your family can look forward to a memorable safari in the afternoon! Listen to the sounds of nature and let your gaze wander over the pristine landscapes.

Travel time Ella - Yala National Park: about 2 hours 30 hours / approx. 112 km

On the way to Galle, you will have the opportunity to watch the fishers crouch on stilts (balancing on a thin wooden plate) while they try to catch sardines, mackerel, and other small fish.

The southern port city of Galle is one of the most beautiful cities in Sri Lanka. The massive fortress walls of the old town were built from granite and coral more than 350 years ago! Take a pleasant walk on the well-preserved walls while the warm breeze accompanies you.

The adventure doesn’t stop there! Continue your drive to Mount Lavinia, where you will spend your final evening reminiscing about your trip while you eat an authentic Sri Lanka meal.
