The first stop on this exciting day is the Mae Malai market. This colorful and exotic bazaar is on the outskirts of Chiang Mai and is famous for its numerous traders from the surrounding hill tribes.

After visiting the market, continue to the remote village of Baan Thon Youa and begin your two-and-a-half-hour hike. Enjoy the fresh air and the spectacular view. Then, the path will lead you through various mountain villages and the evergreen jungle. Learn all about the local tribes who were once famous for their opium trade but later adapted to modern laws. They are now known for their handicrafts, farming, and coffee plantations. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the middle of nature.

At the end of the trek, you will arrive in a village called Baang Phong Ngan, inhabited by the Lahu Hill tribe. Hop aboard a traditional bamboo raft and enjoy the ride through the exotic surroundings. With a bit of luck, you might meet some water buffalo who like to hangout in the cool waters. The length of the journey depends on the water level — usually, it takes around an hour and a half. When you arrive at the endpoint, an off-road vehicle awaits you. End your eventful day with a trip into Chiang Mai’s old town.
