Tuk-Tuk Self Drive Tour in Thailand

Your adventure begins with a 45-minute transfer to the Mae Wang district, the starting point of your tuk-tuk drive. After you leave the bustling Chiang Mai behind and your guide has given you a first introduction to the tuk-tuks, it's time for a detailed driver training.

Once you feel confident with your vehicle, the ride can begin. Your route will take you to the Mae Sapok Valley, where a classic Southeast Asian landscape of rice terraces, water buffalo and small village houses awaits you. Take advantage of the scenery for a vacation photo with a postcard feel. A short walk through the forest will bring you to a small waterfall.

Your drive continues to an elephant camp. Enjoy a simple lunch and learn about the relationship between elephants and the local community. Your visit today will help continue the important work of this small, ethical enterprise so that the pachyderms can continue to move healthily and freely in the fields and forests.

A tranquil river cruise on a traditional bamboo raft completes your experience. Relax and observe local life from a different perspective.

Finally, in the late afternoon, you will drive back to Mae Wang - from where you will be transferred to your hotel in Chiang Mai.

• A class B driver's license is required to drive the tuk-tuk. Likewise, an international driver's license is required.
• Even though the use of a tuk-tuk is relatively easy, a driving training session at the starting point in Mae Wang is mandatory.
• Unless the driving training is successfully completed, there is an option to take the tour with a local driver.
• Each tuk-tuk is used by up to three people who are allowed to take turns driving. This gives you an optimal mix of an exciting time behind the wheel and relaxation in the back seat.
