The capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan holds great cultural treasures. The origins of Amman go back to the Old Testament city of Rabbah, whose inhabitants called themselves Rabbat-Ammon. Historical figures such as Alexander the Great left their mark here. The Romans had an enormous influence on the region - Amman played a central role as one of the Decapolis cities. A city tour including a visit to the Roman Theater and the Temple of Artemis is highly recommended.
Another experience that should not be missing in your itinerary is a trip to the desert castles east of the city. The buildings, inconspicuous from the outside, hold a few surprises inside.
In the morning, you will start your journey south, passing Madaba on your way along the Royal Road. St. George's Church is an attraction for history lovers, as it houses the oldest map of the Holy Land. On a mosaic in the floor of the church are the places that were the most important at the time of its construction in the 6th century.
At the medieval Crusader castle in Kerak, let your imagination run wild and be transported back to the time of the Crusades. While the children play in the castle courtyard, you will learn all about the life of the people in the region in the Middle Ages.
In the afternoon, you are going to reach your destination for the day on the edge of the Dana Biosphere Reserve. A breathtaking view awaits you!
