Destination

Asia

Colombo - Galle - Yala National Park - Passikudah - Trincomalee - Thirapanne - Colombo

The first day begins after landing at Colombo International Airport with a transfer to your first hotel, the luxurious Residence by Uga Escapes.

Located in the city's heart, this small boutique hotel dating back to the 19th century, offers the best conditions for a great sightseeing tour. Arrive at leisure and freshen up briefly in your suite before hitting the bustling streets of the vibrant capital.

Colombo is a great city. With a population of over three million, here you will experience the country's largest city and the political, cultural, and economic center of Sri Lanka.

Enjoy this lively city flair during a stroll - first-class restaurants and modern stores, which you would otherwise search for in vain on the rest of the island, are lined up here. You should not miss the Galle Face Green if you have enough time because it is Colombo's most extensive and elegant promenade. The 500-meter-long green strip stretches along the coast and is lined with palm trees. Several restaurants and a small beach invite you to linger.

Other attractions worth seeing are the Gangaramaya Temple, one of the most important temples in Sri Lanka, the Viharamahadevi public park, and the Independence Memorial Hall, modeled after the Capitol in Washington in 1946.

Would you have guessed that Colombo has one of Asia's most essential transshipment harbors? Tip: The best view of the harbor area is from the Harbour View Restaurant, located on the fourth floor of the Grand Oriental Hotel.

Best time to visit: Sri Lanka is a destination that can be visited all year round.

Trip duration: 34 km / approx. 1 hour

1 night stay at the Residence by Uga Escapes***** with breakfast in a Park Suite, Colombo, Sri Lanka

Today's destination is the fortified town of Galle in the south of the island, about 2.5 hours away. You will check in at your hotel and visit the important Galle Fort. Feel as if you have been transported to another world - built by the Dutch in the 17th century, you will experience the most significant European fortress construction in Southeast Asia, which has also been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. Stroll along the mighty ramparts, enjoy the magnificent views of the clear waters of the Indian Ocean, and explore the small cafes and luxurious villas that complete the colonial-style atmosphere.

Within this fortification, you will also find the Meera Jumma Masjid Mosque, the Sri Sudharmalaya Vihara Buddhist Temple, and the National Museum - all significant sights of the city just waiting to be discovered by you.

1 night in the Galle Fort Hotel***** with breakfast in a Garden Room, Galle, Sri Lanka

We hope you have your camera ready - after breakfast, drive to the famous Yala National Park, where you will encounter Sri Lanka's diverse wildlife in the wild.

Located in the country's south, Yala National Park boasts one of the densest populations of leopards in the world, in addition to crocodiles, wild boar, elephants, and numerous monkeys. Look forward to an unforgettable safari in the afternoon: Listen to the sounds of nature and let your eyes wander over the untouched landscape! Can you hear the rustling in the trees? With some luck, you can capture stunning photos of sloths, deer, and even maybe a leopard.

Trip duration: 174 km / approx. 3,5 hours

2 nights at the Chena Huts by Uga Escapes***** with all-inclusive (meals + activities) in a Chalet, Yala National Park, Sri Lanka

Getting up early today is worth it! At dawn, you will participate in an exciting safari. Drive towards the colorful sunrise, and, with some luck, you can marvel at nocturnal animals returning from their nightly hunt.

Additionally, Yala National Park is also known for its colorful variety of birds. About 300 species of birds make their home here - most of them are migratory birds escaping the cold and spending the winter here in the national park.

After enjoying a fresh lunch, another safari awaits you in Yala National Park. Just don't forget to pack your camera! Keep an eye out for Sri Lanka's magnificent wildlife and marvel at the fascinating animals as they stand nearby - pure adrenaline!

Tip: The months of February to July offer ideal conditions to observe leopards in the wild. Deer, birds, and crocodiles can be seen up close, especially from October to December at Yala National Park.

If you haven’t had enough of Sri Lanka's rich wildlife, you will go on an unforgettable safari at Yala National Park for the last time before packing your bags and continuing your journey north.

During the afternoon, check into your hotel, the luxurious Uga Bay by Uga Escapes, which will be your home for the next two nights. Situated directly on the fine sandy beach, you can relax here and simply unwind. Treat yourself to some time out and sample the finest delicacies from the region in the in-house restaurant.

Organize the coming day according to your taste. Not far from your hotel, diving and snorkeling enthusiasts can explore the impressive underwater world or rent a jet ski for one or more hours.

From Passsikudah, there are also ideal day trips. For example, visit Polonnaruwa's world cultural heritage site or the nature reserve at the rock of Thoppigala.

Trip duration 253 km / approx. 5.5 hours

2 nights at Uga Bay by Uga Escapes***** with breakfast in a Beach Studio, Passikudah, Sri Lanka

Well rested and fortified by breakfast at your luxurious beach hotel, you will leave the picturesque seaside resort of Passikudah and continue north until you reach your destination today, the Jungle Beach Resort in Trincomalee.

Trincomalee is located in the northeast of the country. Its name means "the temple." Wondering where the name comes from? Legend has it that one of Asia's most significant Hindu temples was once built under Tamil rule.

Although the small coastal town is not one of the most beautiful cities in Sri Lanka, a trip to Trincomalee is always worth a visit due to its eventful past. Join a guided sightseeing tour to see the city's main attractions in the afternoon. You'll visit Fort Frederick, built by the Portuguese in 1627 and expanded by the Danes 38 years later, and Koneswaram Temple, which offers fascinating views of the local harbor and coastline. Nature lovers, beware! From time to time, you have a chance to see blue whales here.

Trip duration: 135 km / approx. 3 hours

3 nights at Jungle Beach by Uga Escapes***** with breakfast in a Lagoon Cabin, Trincomalee, Sri Lanka

We have no activities planned for you today. Strengthen yourself at the rich breakfast and arrange the day exactly as you wish.

Today you can relax and unwind on the beautiful sandy beach. If you would also like to discover what the coast has in store for you, Jungle Beach Resort, located directly on the beach, also offers a wide range of exciting water sports activities. Explore the colorful underwater world of Pigeon Island or get up close to dolphins and whales on a boat trip.

Did you have a good rest yesterday? Today is time to pack your bags again - your next stop is the luxurious Ulagalla by Uga Escapes in Thirapanne.

You will check in at your hotel and then drive to the royal city of Anuradhapura, about 45 minutes away. Many centuries ago, Anuradhapura was one of the world's largest cities and the country's first capital. With your guide, you will visit well-preserved ruins and temples of the ancient Sri Lankan civilization, which are known far beyond the country.

Of course, a visit to the famous Mahabodhi tree is also essential. But what exactly is so special about this fig tree? It is the holiest tree of Asia, also known as the "Tree of Enlightenment." It was under this tree that Gautama Siddhartha became the Buddha in 528 BC.

Trip duration: 114 km / about 3 hours

2 nights including half board at Ulagalla by Uga Escapes***** in an Ulagalla Villa, Thirapanne, Sri Lanka

A mandatory experience of any Sri Lanka round trip is a visit to the Lion Rock of Sigiriya. You will visit the fortress built in the 5th century AD on the 200-meter monolith. After a whopping 1,860 steps, you will make it to the top, where a magnificent view over the landscape will reward you for the climb. Stroll through the royal garden and learn about one of the most important chapters of the country's history.

After reaching your transfer vehicle, continue to Polonnaruwa. Known as the second capital of Sri Lanka, serving as the royal seat from 1070 to 1288, large stupas, countless Buddha figures, park and palace grounds, and historic buildings are reminders of a bygone time. A unique atmosphere awaits you!

Your itinerary takes you back to Colombo today. Is there anything you want to see again? Stroll through the big city streets and use the day to get maybe one or two souvenirs for your loved ones back home.
