Sri Lanka 7-Day Round Trip

You can travel to Sri Lanka all year round. We recommend a trip to the south and west of Sri Lanka from November to March, while the north and east of the country can be traveled from March to November.

You will land at Colombo International Airport and be greeted by a partner agency representative in arrivals. The transfer will take you to the first accommodation of your round trip in Negombo.

The rest of the day is at your leisure. Use the time to recover from your arrival and get used to the climate. Relax by the lovely hotel pool, stroll along the beach, or pamper yourself with a soothing spa treatment in the wellness area.

You will start the day with a delicious breakfast before your driver takes you to Sigiriya. After a four-hour drive, it’s time to stretch your legs on a bike tour that we organized for you. On small side roads, you will cycle past small villages around Lake Kandalama. Soak in the scenic views of endless rice fields, the glistening lake, and glimpses into village life.

A highlight of your trip is visiting Sigiriya’s ancient rock fortress, also known as the Lion Fortress. Even from a distance, the 200-meter-high monolith catches the eye because it rises above the jungle and rice fields. On the rock plateau is a former royal fortress. Travel back in time and discover the restored frescoes, murals, and Buddha statues.

Plot twist: Instead of climbing Sigiriya Rock, we have planned a visit to Pidurangala Rock for you. Far less crowded than its famous counterpart, the “Neighbor Rock” offers a perfect view of Sigiriya Rock.

Back at your hotel, freshen up before embarking on an exciting safari in Minneriya National Park. The park is trendy due to the enormous elephant population. During the dry season from June to September, up to 200 elephants migrate from nearby Wasgamuwa National Park to Minneriya National Park in search of water. With some luck, you can marvel at the gentle pachyderms and capture stunning photos. It is also home to over 160 bird species, endemic monkey species, the samba deer, and leopards.

Please note that depending on the time of year, the safari may also occur in Kaudualla National Park or Hurulu Eco Park.

Overnight with breakfast in Sigiriya/Dambulla, Sri Lanka

Today it’s time to pack your bags again. Enjoy a hearty breakfast at your hotel before continuing your journey south. Today’s destination is the city surrounded by green mountains: Kandy. In the afternoon, go on a sightseeing tour and get to know the local markets and Kandy Lake. Keep your eyes peeled for the local animals roaming around, such as turtles, snakes, pelicans, and other water birds.

Another highlight of your stay is the famous Sri Dalada Mailgawa Temple of the Tooth, one of the most sacred Buddhist locations. In a shrine is one of Buddha’s teeth. The tooth represents Buddha’s spiritual power that’s stored in it. A 10-day festival is held every August in honor of this sacred tooth. A procession of dancers and drummers accompany elephants, carrying the Tooth of Buddha through the streets.

Most of your journey today will be by scenic train. You will board the train in Peradeniya and continue south to Nanu Oya. The journey takes about 2.5 hours and guides you through a fairytale mountain landscape. You will experience how the lush jungle is replaced by coniferous forests and rivers while enjoying glimpses of valleys and gorges. In total, you will overcome an altitude difference of about 1400 meters. The landscape becomes increasingly hilly, and the first tea plantations will suddenly appear. Once you arrive in Nuwara Eliya, your guide will greet you, and together, you will continue your journey to Ella.

On the way, you will visit a tea plantation and its factory. Learn about tea production — for example, the process from harvest to an aromatic cup of tea. At the end of your tour, you will have the opportunity to buy tea.

Driving time Nuwara Eliya – Ella: approx. 2 hours / 55 km

From Ella, your route takes you back to the Indian Ocean. Your destination, Tangalle, is at the southern tip of Sri Lanka and the perfect place for relaxation.
